Here at Original Chinchillas I do my best to provide a home for chinchillas who find themselves without one. Unfortunately I have become over-full and am not able to take in any more at this time. I have many great chinchillas looking for a home which can be viewed on the available page. Once I get our numbers down I will again be able to open my doors to chinchillas in need.
If you are thinking of getting a chinchilla for yourself please think through the commitment. You’re looking at 15-20 years, almost a quarter of your life. Chinchillas get dumped everyday. The most common reasons are:
“I’m moving and can not take them with me”
“I have developed allergies or my new boyfriend/girlfriend is allergic”
“I don’t have time”
“The kids are bored with them”
“I didn’t know a boy and a girl would breed”
“The kid (owner) has gone to college and we want to travel”
Please make sure that you will not become one of those reasons and are fully prepared for a life long commitment.
Sponsor a chinchilla!
For those of you who are not able to adopt, or for those who simply wish to lend a hand, the chinchilla sponsorship program allows you to do just that. Sponsoring a chinchilla provides funding for their daily care and also goes towards the reserve for veterinary care. There are a few ways to sponsor a chinchilla:
One time donation. With a one time donation the chosen chinchilla will be sponsored for one month. Your name (unless you wish to be anonymous) will be displayed on the website next to the desired chinchilla’s name. You will receive a photo and thank you card from the chinchilla of your choice and will be added to the email mailing list.
Monthly donation. A chinchilla may be sponsored monthly for $20 or a pair for $35/month. Your name (unless you wish to be anonymous) will be displayed on the website next to the desired chinchilla’s name. You will receive a photo and thank you card from the chinchilla of your choice and will be added to the email mailing list. You will receive bi-monthly updates from your chinchilla and be kept appraised of any pending adoptions. Your name will also be displayed on the cage itself.
Should you wish to sponsor a chinchilla as a gift for someone else, please provide their mailing address and which name you would like displayed on the website. If you would like a specific message on the card from yourself, please include that as well. If you have any questions on the sponsorship program please don’t hesitate to email me.
Donations
If you would like to make a donation of food or supplies we would greatly appreciate it! Below is a list of things we are always in need of. Please pay attention to brands, particularly for the food as we all know how upsetting it is to a chinchilla’s digestive system to be switching pellets. Many of our supplies are available through: http://www.ontariochinchillas.ca/store.php If you wish to pick up something extra for the rescue, please let Natalie know at the time of order and she will let me know that there is something to be picked up. Alternately, you are welcome to come and drop it by, just email me to set up a time.
Reidstra brand pellets
Aspen shavings
Timothy Hay
Chew toys
Glass water bottles
Melamine Sheets for cage building
Hammocks & Tubes
1g glass fish bowls for dusting
Bathing dust
I am also working on paying down my loans for the vet bills. Our current balance is around $3500. If you wish to make a donation directly towards this balance please specify. Credit to you will be posted on the website (please specify if you wish to be anonymous) along with the running total.
